MIDLAND, TX (KWES) –
A local addiction treatment center is hoping to give their clients a leg-up on the road to recovery.
The Springboard Center in Midland opened up the Fred Westmoreland Fitness Center on Tuesday.
The center is a 1,200-square foot space filled with treadmills, bikes, free weights and more.
They say it’s all to help reduce the stress of their patients and provide something for them to focus on for the future.
“We always assume healing with the clinical aspect. You know they go to programs, they do different education classes and they meet with their counselors. But fitness is really is an important adjunct to their treatment as well. So we wanted to have a dedicated space for the clients to come and work out, just like everyone else,” said Karissa Kienast with The Springboard Center.
The Springboard Center says that whenever a client comes to them for help they set a fitness goal at the start of treatment to give patients an opportunity to reach an attainable goal by the end of their treatment.
